The Bendigo Health Foundation is supported by a board compromising of ten community members who volunteer their time and expertise to help raise funds.

The Bendigo Health Foundation Board members are:

Mr Scott Elkington

Chair | Member since 2009
Scott arrived in Bendigo in 1984, studying part-time at the La Trobe University Bendigo while working for Sandhurst Trustees Limited. Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Business (economics major) and his career continued within Bendigo Bank. Scott’s roles within Bendigo Bank have included State Manager of Victoria and Queensland and Executive Director of Community Sector Banking – Australia’s only specialised banking service for the not for profit sector. Scott is currently Head of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Community Solutions and Partnering. He is a member of the Bendigo Business Council and is married with five children.

Mr Matt Bowles

Matt’s involvement with the Bendigo Health Foundation was initiated when, as president of the Bendigo Branch of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, he conducted a number of charity auctions for the foundation. Matt’s passion for the foundation and in particular rural patient accommodation is motivated not only by his rural upbringing, but also due to his own family’s experience and empathy of the difficulties that rural cancer patients face. Matt is a director of real estate firm Dungey Carter Ketterer Pty Ltd, which has traded in Bendigo since 1900 and is the past chair of the foundation.

Ms Susan DeAraugo

Member since 2009
After raising her family, Sue re-entered the business sector in Bendigo some 15 years ago. Sue has been involved in the development of several large organisations during that time including Bendigo Toyota. Her key roles include marketing, advertising, human resources and administration as well as interior designer for the Bendigo Toyota showroom.

Mr Danny Clapp

Member since 2009
Danny saw the opportunity to join the Bendigo Health Foundation board as a way to help make a difference in his local community. Danny, owner of The Good Guys Bendigo since 2001 has lived and immersed himself in the community for most of his life. He is married to Tammy and has four sons. Danny loves spending time on his property at Bridgewater with family and friends and is a life member of the Kangaroo Flat Football Netball Club.

Mr Peter Faulkner

Member since 2015
Peter is the Chief Executive Officer of Bendigo Health. Peter holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management and a Master of Health Administration from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, a contract management in public, private partnerships certificate from Melbourne University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.

Ms Sonya Kuchel

Member since 2015
Sonya is a long term member of the Bendigo Business Council, Bendigo Young Professional Network (founding member), Bendigo Tourism and woman.i.s.e. She is a key figure in the development of the multi award winning Foundry Hotel Complex. Sonya has significant experience in community engagement and events, with strong organisational capability and is an outstanding communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills.

Mr Neil Beattie

Member since 2015

Neil has been farming his Boort property for 45 years and is a committed member of the regional community. He holds Life Memberships with Apex and North Central Football League and is a past President of NCFL and Boort Football Club.  He is current Chair of Lake Boort Management, Boort Park Management and Boort Cereal Growers Co-op and Loddon Shire Councillor. Neil played football for Boort for 20 years and has been member of the Barraport Fire Brigade for 45 years. In 2013 Neil became Victoria’s highest fundraiser for Dry July which saw $40,000 provided to the Bendigo Health Foundation to assist in the upgrade of cancer patient accommodation units.


Ms Vicki Gaudion

Member since 2017

Vicki (nee Hazeldene) was born and has lived her whole life in Bendigo.
She attended Kangaroo Flat Primary and then Golden Square High school before embarking on a Nursing Career. Vicki’s General Training was undertaken at the Northern District School of Nursing and she worked at the Bendigo Base Hospital. A fourth year of midwifery training was undertaken at Bendigo where, apart from a 12 month stint working at Inglewood, Vicki continued her midwifery work at Stanistreet House for the next 5 years.
Following her marriage and the arrival of 3 daughters, the family business attracted a different aspect and was more suitable to family life. Several roles have been filled within the family business with the majority of work done in the farming side.

Now Manager of Corporate Affairs at Hazeldenes, Vicki manages acquisitions, property management and development, grain purchasing and feed as well her continuing interest in the farming side of the business.

Vicki has been involved in many organisations and charities throughout her life and is excited about joining the Bendigo Health Foundation Board.

Clare Shiell

Member since 2018

Clare Shiell is an innovative and strategic executive with over 20 years experience across public and private sector corporations. As the CEO of Exemplar Health (NBH) Partnership, she is a proud member of the team that delivered Victoria’s largest regional hospital development to the Bendigo region and beyond.

A transformational leader, Clare thrives in complex and diverse environments where there is a need to implement sustained change that works. Clare brings an interesting mix of high level skills in communication, marketing, strategic implementation, governance, people management, complex contract advisory, procurement, and major project delivery.
