Investing in the future of palliative care
The Bendigo Health Foundation, together with the Palliative Care Auxiliary, is proud to support Bendigo Health nurses to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Palliative Care through two funded scholarships.
The postgraduate certificate provides an opportunity to build their clinical knowledge, develop new skills, and explore approaches to improve care for patients and their families.
For nurse Emily Coughlan, the course has also provided an opportunity to reflect on why she chose a career in palliative care.
“It gives you an opportunity to step back and remind yourself why you do the work you do.”
The learning is also being brought directly back to the ward, with the current semester focusing on research and quality improvement. This is giving the nurses the chance to explore new resources and approaches that could be applied to improve care at Bendigo Health.
Palliative Care Nurse Laura Benbow said the course was providing valuable opportunities to discover new ideas and consider how they could be put into practice.
“It allows us to find new resources, see what’s out there and see what can help us improve as a health service.”
These scholarships are another way that the generosity of our community is helping create impact across Bendigo Health, supporting our staff to grow, innovate and deliver the best possible care to our community.
