Music & Arts Project

In February 2020, Bendigo Health officially launched its Music & Arts Project, an initiative designed to improve our patients’ experiences and deliver the ‘value added’ benefits associated with music in the healthcare setting.

The Music & Arts Project is a new collaboration between Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation, Ulumbarra Foundation and Founding Partner Strategem. Cancer Centre Clinical Director, Dr Rob Blum, was integral in the realisation of the initiative. Rob, who is a musician, had already created a space in the hospital’s Cancer Centre for a baby piano, which is regularly played for patients and enjoyed by many.

The project has been piloted in our Cancer Centre and in time, will involve expansion into other clinical areas. The generosity of our partners has funded the position of a part time coordinator to recruit volunteer musicians and stage a diverse range of performances to benefit our patients, staff and community.

The new Music & Arts Project aims to enhance the emotional health and wellbeing of patients, their families, staff and visitors. Music and art can reduce patient stress and anxiety and has been identified as a core part of the Cancer Wellness Program.

Local academic, Dan Bendrups will use the Bendigo Health Music & Arts Project to uncover the evidence around the benefits of music in health care.

We rely on community support and donations for the sustainability of the Music & Arts Project. You can help by making a donation today.
