Bendigo’s philanthropic spirit was in full show on Saturday, as $254,358 was raised for Bendigo Health’s Cancer Wellness Program at the third annual McKean McGregor Bendigo Community Gala Ball.
In just three years, $682,916 has been raised through the Gala Ball.
Bendigo Health Director, Fundraising & Foundation, Rachel Mason, said the result was all the more remarkable given the cost of living pressures facing regional Victorians.
“It’s amazing to have a community so connected to a cause and to our health service. We are extremely proud of grateful for the work McKean McGregor do on this community-led fundraising event,” she said.
“Every dollar raised will go directly to help local cancer patients.”
Funds from this year’s event will support the expansion of the Cancer Wellness Program into a second building – the Superintendent’s residence on the Bendigo Health precinct – which will give the program more flexibility in providing complementary therapies to patients.
Bendigo Health’s Cancer Wellness Program provides oncology massage, reflexology, cancer rehabilitation, yoga, meditation, music & art experiences, pet therapy and mental health support.
Last year the program provided 2000 appointments to 500 cancer patients
McKean McGregor CEO Todd Brown said he was blown away by the community support for the event.
“Community-led events like this require a lot of passion and energy from a dedicated group of people,” he said.
“Thanks to our team and the generous Bendigo community. We are proud to be associated with such an important cause.”
